The weather: rain. My mood: insatiable.
Is that possible for a mood to be unsatisfiable? You know those days when you just can’t decide on anything? The kind of day that feels like you’ve got things to do, but you feel like you have nothing to do? I have a long list of things that need doing. A lot of them necessary. Not a lot of them with deadlines. But I sure would love it if they got done sooner. I keep skipping from one thing to the next, without really completing the job. I planned on freezing a bunch of meals this afternoon. So I roasted a chicken with the intent of cutting it up and making some different sauces to mix it with. I got as far as roasting, and now it’s just sitting in the fridge. Waiting. A scratchy old record of Beethoven is playing right now, and it seems to match my mood. I decided to wash the floor mat in the bathroom. I really wanted to wash the whole bathroom, but the mat is as far as I got. I hung up hooks in my closet so that I can hang scarves. I was going to organize the whole closet… I washed the floor in the kitchen. Then I made myself a cup of tea, and here I am. The tea is not as good as I expected. It’s some organic rooibos from the grocery store. It’s a replacement tea until we get out to Vancouver and buy some rooibos from the T Shop on Broadway. I had plans to pressure wash the outside of the house, but the rain kept me from it. It seems as if nothing I do today is exciting enough to capture my attention. Insatiable. Even this blog is not satisfying me. I’m going to go take a bath. Dave should be home soon.
Last fall when we moved in, we really didn’t do a whole lot to the yard. Considering it was the end of the gardening season, we decided the best thing to do was wait till spring. Well, one non-existent winter later and here we are. Overgrown with dandelions.
Last week Dave mowed the lawn for the first time this year. It looked fantastic. Before he mowed it, I didn’t notice the dandelions so much. Then about 4 days later…they just spread and completely took over in that short period of time. During the week we have been discussing what kind of method we want to use to rid ourselves of these things. The most obvious method, (herbicides) is totally out for us. Neither Dave nor I feel that using chemicals are a good idea on the lawn or in gardening. (Read about Environmental Effects of Pesticides ((ie, Herbicide, Insecticide)) here). This week I researched organic/alternative weeding methods. I read a few articles online about using pickling vinegar as spot treatment….clearly we have too many weeds for that. I went to some nurseries and asked about organic weed killer. Nothing. The last method…pulling them all out. Luckily for us, my parents have one of them handy dandy Fiskars Weed Pullers. I went out this morning and pulled for a good hour and a half, and got a little under 1/4 of the front yard done. *sigh* I have a feeling once I get a handle on the weeds, the lawn is going to look pretty holey. ;) The next step will be filling in holes and seeding.
It sure would have been a lot nicer if the previous renters had taken a little bit of pride in the yard, instead of trashing it and leaving it to the weeds. I really don’t want to be a picky-pants about the lawn. And truthfully, I actually don’t mind a few dandelions here and there. But seriously. This lawn is one big dandelion plant.
It’s gonna be a busy next few weeks of yard work.
omigosh. It’s been, like forever ago since I blogged. Like, shoot.
It’s really unfortunate. I have been meaning to post something on my blog, but many things have been distracting me of late. Even as I type, I am getting distracted by a million things and then I wonder, “What was I supposed to be doing?” The funny thing is, a big thing I have been distracted with is a project that I started of putting all my blogs and photos together in yearbooks starting from 2007. So my blog has not been the last thing on my mind.
The weather lately has been LOVELY. I went outside this afternoon and laid on the grass for a bit, just to get away from the boringness of my indoor chores. So nice.
Let’s see. What has been going on…
Dave has officially started his job as worship pastor at Ross Road Community Church this afternoon! We are both so excited for the position. We have really enjoyed being a part of the church so far, and I think there’s going to be some serious good times ahead.
Hmm….what else….oh! Our garden is well underway! We have many epic plans of food growing this year. It is most exciting.
Gee…this is the least exciting blog I have to date. It’s a blog for the sake of blogging. It’s the “I should really concentrate on my writing, but I have nothing to write about” blog. It’s a snoozer.
I was, however, quite pleased with how the picture turned out. Quite nice indeed.
Ok. I’ll give it up. This is clearly not working today.
