13-52 the normal.

Project 52 – A portrait of my child once a week, every week in 2014.

Week 13:  The Normal

6.5 months old

12lbs 14oz

Today we had a follow up appointment with Lucy’s cardiologist.  He informed us that from now on, we are to treat Lucy like just a normal baby.  No more special treatment.  It’s funny how one would normally say “But my baby is more than normal!” and perhaps be slightly irritated by a comment that they are to treat their child as “just normal”, but for us the idea of her being “just normal” is so nice to hear.

So here’s what’s normal for Lucy right now:

- Teething.  Huzzah!  *said sarcastically*  She’s been a bit of a miserable case with a terrible diaper rash and oodles of drool.  But such is life for a 6 month old.

- Goofiness.  She loves to make silly sounds with her mouth and laugh afterwards.  It’s usually accompanied with drool.

- Camera ham.  If she’s in a bad mood, I’ve discovered that the camera will make her smile.  What. Have. I. Done….

Normally I’d just select 1 or 2 pictures, but this week I just couldn’t decide.  So you’ll just have to suffer through a few more pictures.

we ♥︎: minimocs

I want to start a new series, reviewing products that we love in our home.  I’m not sponsored by anyone, so you can be assured–this is purely an organic review.  No one is paying me to say this. :)

So without further adieu, my first review is of a local company that I am head over heels in love with (and Lucy is too!)– Minimoc.  This company was started by a friend of mine a little over a year ago, after she had been making moccasins for friends babies and the interest in them just kept growing.  Since then her little company has exploded with popularity and has gained fans all over.

Aside from the fact that they are locally made, we also love that they are made from ethically sourced leather–something that seems to be hard to come by these days.  They are sturdy little moccasins, and fit SO well.  Lucy is a major kicker and I have yet to see her get them off her feet.  She also has teeny tiny feet, and Minimocs are the only shoes that I have found that have sizes that fit since she came home from the hospital.  They come in 15 different colours, and also have just come out with matching hair bows and bow ties!  We are so excited to see their company grow, and I eagerly await when Dave will let me buy another pair for Lucy.

Check out their website to see all the awesomeness:  OR like them on Facebook to get updates on new colours and products!

[BELOW] Lucy’s well loved mocs–the gold ones were a prototype size that didn’t fit normal baby feet–but my little preemie fit them well.  She’s in size 2 already! We LOVE the white ones for springtime.

12-52: nap time for lucy

Project 52 – A portrait of my child once a week, every week in 2014.

Week 12:  Nap time for Lucy

Ever since she had heart surgery, Lucy’s energy has been through the roof!  It’s great…but now we have had to start from square one with naps for her.  It used to be that we could lay her down anywhere/whenever and she would sleep.  Now the world is terribly exciting, and sleep is not on her agenda.  We’ve had to work really hard on routines–snuggles with Franny the Fun Bun, soother, then bottle…then…sleep.  It’s taken a lot of deliberateness on our part but I think we are slowly falling in to a kind of schedule.  Huzzah for that.

PS: She’s sitting on  my lap now and desperately wants at the keyboard, so here’s a message from Lucy:

“fmnnm bgm           sd/,.vh mjm7ff5hgn h n SD”

Happy Thursday!  We’re off to family dinner!

five things.

A new weekly post.  Five things I feel like sharing.  Probably random.  From real life or around the interwebz.

1. This home.  Strangely, so not my style…but I find it such a lovely take on Victorian decor.

2. I’m trying to get back into a healthy routine lately.  I joined a gym, and have been seeking easy healthy recipes.  Dena from Live Love Simple posted this one and I found it intriguing.

3.  The weather lately.  Seriously.  I just went outside in my bare feet to take this picture.  The snowfall at beginning of March freaked everyone out, but that’s how it is every year…all of a sudden it’s spring.

4. Which brings me to…this blanket.  I’m pretty sure I see these at the thrift store all the time and this makes me want to go buy one and go to the beach.  Except that beaches in BC don’t really look like that…

5. And finally..lazy mornings.  Dave took a few days off to help out with Lucy since I threw my back out on Saturday.

Happy weekending, folks!

11-52 the jolly maharani

Project 52 – A portrait of my child once a week, every week in 2014.

Week 11:  The Jolly Maharani

6 (!!) months old (on Sunday)

I made this little turban headband for Lucy this week and she has been referred to as a little maharaja more than once…although I’d like to point out that she is a little girl and the equivalent is a maharani.  I googled it.  Of course.
I think she looks so jolly in the above picture, which pretty much seems to describe her personality.  Since being off the tube her demeanour has made a complete turnaround.  While she wasn’t a necessarily a miserable baby, she almost never laughed, and it took a lot to get a smile.
Lately she has been interacting with her toys a lot more, and definitely has a favourite (a green frog hanging on her play mat).  She holds on to it, and holds on to another toy to the left of her (a little puppy) and stares at the frog and talks to it in a high pitched happy squeal voice.  It’s…endearing…?
We’re still struggling with eating, although she’s starting to take bigger volumes at a time.  Albeit, they happen mostly when she’s drowsy/asleep…but we’re working on that.  This morning she took half an ounce wide awake.  Amazing!
