Dec 10 2015

50-52  We’ve been having a lot of conversations about waiting lately.  When she first saw the presents under the tree she said “presents!!” grabbed one, brought it to me and said “Open it!”  After I explained to her that at Christmas time, we have to wait till Christmas day to open the presents, she spent the next 20 minutes talking herself down (through tears) and reassuring herself about waiting till Christmas. The very next morning, she ran to the presents and the first thing she said was “Look at all the presents!  We have to wait.”

When I asked her what she *thought* she was getting for Christmas looked up and said “Hmm. Let’s see.  I think books. And toys.” But when I asked what she *wanted* for Christmas, she said “A tiny mommy and a tiny Lucy and a tiny Pug.”

I can’t wait to see her reaction to Christmas day this year.  I think it’s going to be so much fun!

On another note, it appears I had the same idea last year on the same week for the picture, because it’s basically the same image. Haha!

52-52 Christmas Eve

Project 52 – A portrait(s) of my child once a week, every week in 2014.

Week 52: Christmas Eve

15.5 months

She’s reaching for Grandma who is off camera trying to keep her from jumping off the chair and crawling away.  I wanted at least one nice picture of her in her pretty Christmas dress!

I can’t believe this is the last project 52 post!  I’ve enjoyed it quite a bit.  Who knows, there may be a 2015 version. :)

50-52 Glow

Project 52 – A portrait(s) of my child once a week, every week in 2014.

Week 50:  Glow

14.75 months

I took a picture similar to this last week when Lucy saw the tree lit up for the first time, but the difference in this one, is that the silly little girl is STANDING.  Her one hand is barely touching the tree (for “stability”)  We all know she can do it, but she’s so stubborn it has felt like she’s never actually going to walk.  Then all of a sudden there she is, scooting around the Christmas tree (and not really holding on to anything) like its no big deal.  I wouldn’t count these as first steps really, but dang it she’s so close!  I keep telling her that by Christmas day she better be walking.

She loves the tree and so far has only touched the presents once.  I told her “no” very sternly and she hasn’t even glanced at them a second time.  I’m honestly a little surprised, given her history with our bookshelf, but I’m relieved too.

Only two more weeks left of this project!  How is that possible?!

49-52 Christmas Helper

Project 52 – A portrait(s) of my child once a week, every week in 2014.

Week 49:  Christmas Helper

14.5 months

On Monday we went out to pick our Christmas tree during Dave’s lunch break.  This is the first year that we have gone when there was snow! (just a tiny bit, but still!)  We went to our favourite little place just down the road from us to cut the tree.  It may not be as fancy as some of the other places out there, but we’ve always found lovely trees there.

While we waited for Dave to come home from work, I got out all the ornaments and tested the lights.  I figured Lucy might like the lights so I let her look at them and she sat there totally enamoured, saying “Wow, wow, wow!”
