changing it up.

We’ve been busy over here at the Rodda household.  A lot of things have been going on. Minnie is now 4 months old, Dave’s ’76 Jensen Healey finally has it’s engine in the car (!) Bigsby…well…nothing ever changes with him… but the biggest thing that has happened is that I am now working 100% at home.  Last Tuesday was my last day at my old job.  It hasn’t completely sunk in yet that I’m fully self employed.  I keep trying to cram my work into the days that I normally had off…and then I realize: “Oh yeah.  I have all week for this.”

Dave and I are both very excited for this change, because it means I can put a lot more of my energy into promoting my photography business, something that, let’s face it, I have not done.  At all.  Hopefully this also means I can blog more. :S  Which I’d like very much.

PS: I’ve been taking so many pictures of my pets that they deserve their own site.  I know, I know.  Crazy critter lady strikes again.  Go check out their tumblr blog here: Miss Minnie + Mr. Big

PPS: Dave says I should just become a pet photographer.  Are there actually other people in the world that are as crazy as I am and would pay for pictures of their animal?

without description.

Sometimes I take pictures, and I don’t have a story behind it. Sometimes they happen just because I’m driving down the road and something catches my eye. Or I get an idea of a picture I want to take, and I set it up.
Most of the time, those pictures don’t make it to my blog. Now they have a home.
I made this section of my website to showcase my art in a non-fussy way, without having to feel like the image needs a story to go with it. They are just my pictures, without description. They stand on their own. (I hope!)
This coming week I will be sharing about future plans for my online presence. Right now, I technically have 4 websites up. I know you must be thinking…”Good grief, this girl has websites coming out of her ears.” Um…and it’s true. There’s no reason why I should be so compartmentalized.
But this will be changing. I want to be able to express that in a post of it’s own, so stay tuned. :)
PS: The image above does have a story…kind of. This morning we had dark foggy grey clouds, and I had this idea of taking a panoramic picture of the mountains with the clouds hanging over them, and lots of dark grey sky. Well, by the time I got out of church it was beautiful and sunny. Happy! But…I still wanted cloud pictures. So we managed to chase them down to the Matsqui flats, where I did some shots. It wasn’t foggy and grey like I imagined (more like fluffy white happy clouds) but I have a feeling BC won’t deprive (har har) me of another day like that.

day 103: {oops}

So….you may have noticed that I have not blogged for a while.
I know you have noticed, because I noticed that I was still getting lots of hits per day.  So you must have noticed.
I do have good reason for slacking off on my blog though!
In the past few weeks, I have done a wedding, an engagement session, a newborn session, 2 families, 1 portrait session and 1 mini child portrait session.  In the next two weeks I have 2 family sessions, 1 musician and 1 portrait.  Holy moly!  I feel a little busy!  On top of all that, I have been working overtime at getting my photography site done.  (It is due to launch Jan. 1) The mini child portrait session was for the website (and that’s what I did today.)  Here’s a picture I took after she left (as a filler image).  It is (obviously) for the contact session of my website.  Do you realize how difficult it was to find an old phone like that?  Wow…I never thought they would be so hard to come by.  I had Dave searching all over town yesterday while I was working.  This was the only one…
Well, I can’t promise that I will be posting something regularly again till after Christmas, but this is a start!

day 100: {so close}

I have now gotten to the point where all the building blocks for my website are established.  I have figured out all the bugs in the wordpress template that I have now completely taken apart.  In the next week I will start assembling my website and making it look pretty.  Now comes the fun stuff. :)
I hope that I can find time to work on it this week though.  I have now booked more photography work since I last posted and my schedule is getting ridiculously full.  I can’t wait to simplify in a few months.
I also can’t wait for the Harry Potter movie in 12 days. Twelve days!!!!!!! HUZZAH!

day 99: {mushy brain}

This is me.  This is me knowing enough of PHP to get myself in trouble when trying to code my new website on WordPress.  This is me minutes before my brain explodes, because I have been trying to alter a PHP template that I downloaded (to make things simpler, right?) and I am continuously getting “fatal errors”.

This is me giving up for the night and going to bed.
